According to Law Minister J C Madhuswamy, a decision to this effect was taken in the cabinet meeting on Friday, after ministers opined that the online classes were posing a huge challenge to students in rural areas.

"All of us were of the opinion that there were challenges faced by students studying in rural areas. Hence, we urged the government to extend the ban on online classes till 7 standard," he said.

However, Karnataka Education minister in his latest tweet said that the ban on online classes is only upto 5th standard, and the extension of the ban upto 7th standard was just a suggestion.

"Karnataka Govt has decided to stop all On-line classes for LKG, UKG & classes up to 5th std. To extend this up to 7th std is only a suggestion from few cabinet ministers as expressed in an informal discussion and NOT a decision.," S Suresh tweeted on Thursday.
